Bantul Towards UNESCO Creative Cities Network Soft Launching

Having declared as The Indonesia’s Strongest Craft District by the Tourism and Creative Economy Agency did not make Bantul Regency satisfied with the achievements. The Bantul Regency Government together with the Creative Economy Committee plans to bring Bantul to the world scene. Tuesday (7/06) held by Bantul Regency soft launch Towards UCCN Craft and Folk Art City, located at The Rattan Resto, Sewon.

Bantul Regency has the opportunity to become a UCCN version of Craft and Folk Art because it has a variety of potentials, from traditional craft, contemporary craft, to the recycle and upcycle craft. The potential is found over 17 Kapanewon and 75 Kalurahan in Bantul Regency. This ecosystem is expected to connect various systems that support creative economic value chains, namely creation, production, distribution, consumis, and conservation.

Bappeda Bantul’s head, Fenti Yusdayati in his report explained that this effort was carried out as one of the concrete actions to realize the vision of a harmonious and prosperous Bantul Regency Government. With the inclusion of Bantul as a creative district of craft and folk art, his hopes of optimizing local potential through investment absorption and a positive impact on inclusive economic growth.

Meanwhile the Regent of Bantul, Abdul Halim, said that this event became a benchmark for Bantul to compete on the international scene. “If we are already in the UCCN then Bantul will be increasingly popular, Bantul is parallel to other creative cities in the world, then, for marketing and promotion sensations will also be heard more by the international public, and will be more trusted ”, he continued.

Working on this great target, Halim invited the Bantul District Creative Economy Committee along with industry players, creative economic drivers, and all stake holders to contribute both in the form of ideas, suggestions, and input to the government.
